Goodbye Winter
Before we say a final goodbye to winter lets remember the best bit of all.
That little moment we caught when we hunkered down to fix their hat and wipe their nose. That brief instant when we were close enough to their angelic faces to hear them exhale a purified breath of freezing air that created a magical vaporous mist that momentarily enveloped us in the still air of a winters walk. An instant so wonderful it made us catch our breath and realise that the sparkling misty air we inhaled into our bodies was the same air, moments earlier, warmed by their little enchanted lungs and brought dancing to life in front of our faces. Without words they equally feel something special is happening in this fleeting moment.
They can’t explain it, but they know it is something special, something beautiful. Not quite knowing what has come over them they behave the only way they know how. They look deep into your eyes, pause for a moment, smile and give you a hug that could melt a glacier. Happy, then run away giggling, like a playful fairy in search of more magic in the woods. Not knowing exactly what just happened they know it was something special never to forget. It becomes their eternal memory of a winters walk knowing they were free, safe and being watched over by someone who loves them unconditionally.
These are the moments that defy time and create the most powerful of bonds. These are the memories of winter past. These moments are our rewards for spending precious time with our children and bringing them for a walk.
Goodbye winter and thank you for the memories.
